Mayor Wu’s 30-Day Review Acknowledges Bike Lane Failures but Offers No Timelines or Accountability Measures

Mayor Wu’s 30-Day Streets Review responds to growing public frustration over how street projects have been handled across Boston. While it acknowledges past communication failures and outlines a more thoughtful approach, promising earlier engagement, neighborhood working groups, and better transparency, it falls short of making a real, actionable commitment to change.

The review points to a future bike network plan, reduced reliance on flex posts, and new neighborhood working groups meant to improve engagement. But it stops short of outlining how these changes will be implemented, who will lead them, or when they will happen. There is no pause on current or upcoming projects, no commitment to a citywide transportation master plan, and no clear timeline. It also fails to explain what data informed the review, who was consulted, or how future decisions will be guided by safety and equity.

While the City says the process will improve, it offers no way for the public to measure progress or hold anyone accountable. Without clear leadership, standards, or deadlines, the promises made in this review risk being little more than talking points.

Pedal Safe Boston continues to call for a full pause on all bike lane construction until a comprehensive, data-driven, and equity-focused transportation master plan is in place. Communities deserve real transparency, meaningful input, and safe, connected streets, not more vague commitments.
