Boston, September 17, 2025 – Pedal Safe Boston has obtained exclusive video of the August 6 crash at Huntington Avenue and Dartmouth Street that left a pedestrian dead. The footage shows the e-bike operator running a red light before striking the victim in a crosswalk.

The pedestrian was transported to the hospital with life-threatening injuries and later died, police confirmed. The rider, believed to be working for a food delivery service, remained on scene. Boston police homicide detectives continue to investigate, and no charges have been filed to date.

The video underscores growing concerns about the regulation of e-bikes and the safety of Boston’s busy intersections.

Street Smarts Episode 2

The incident was the focus of discussion in Episode 2 of Street Smarts with Jay Cashman. Cashman spoke with Meg Mainzer-Cohen, President of the Back Bay Association, about neighborhood safety concerns following the crash. She emphasized the risks posed by high-speed vehicles at pedestrian-heavy crossings and called for stronger safeguards in the area.

Cashman also interviewed State Senator Nick Collins, who discussed his proposed bike safety bill. The legislation would require registration for e-bikes and strengthen accountability measures for delivery riders, an idea gaining traction in the wake of the fatal crash.

Calls for Action

The death has amplified pressure on city and state leaders to address gaps in policy as e-bike usage rapidly grows in Boston. Advocates point to the Dartmouth Street tragedy as a call for urgent reforms to protect pedestrians and ensure fair, enforceable rules for all road users.
